Introduction to the insights from the field blog

Over the past decade Enersynt engineers have worked on the design, construction and commissioning of some of the world's largest sustainable power plants. The lessons that stay with you are rarely the ones that reach the report: where a single assumption quietly drives a project's cost, where a requirement is simple to state but hard to demonstrate, or where simulation and measurement tend to disagree. Too often, those lessons go no further than the project team. They sit in workshop notes, design reviews, commissioning records and lessons-learned registers, and they are worth more than that. So we are writing them down here.

The name sets reflects the standard we want to hold ourselves to: observations drawn from real projects, written by the engineers who delivered them.

What to expect

Through this blog, we'll share practical insights from real engineering projects, industry developments, and lessons learned in the field. Topics will include:

Technical pieces. Grid code compliance, protection coordination, transmission efficiency, HVDC systems and offshore transmission systems. Written for engineers and decision-makers, with enough technical depth for practitioners and enough context to support strategic decisions.

Project retrospectives. Lessons learned from projects such as Northwester 2 Offshore Wind Farm, BESS Harmignies and Stora Enso Solar PV. We will share what worked, what did not, and how those experiences influence future project decisions.

Engineering decisions. Why certain design choices are made, which assumptions matter most, and how competing technical, commercial and regulatory requirements are balanced in real projects.

Grid connection and electrical design optimisation. Through building Rezo, our cloud-based offshore cable and substation optimisation platform, we have challenged many of our own assumptions about electrical design for offshore wind farms. We will write about the studies, the unexpected findings, and the design decisions that have the greatest impact on project outcomes.

Energy sector developments. Regulatory change, grid code revisions and market developments that affect how high voltage projects connect to and operate on the grid. Our focus will be on what these changes mean in practice.

Conferences and research. What we are presenting, the ideas worth sharing, and insights from research collaborations such as CORDOBA.

Who is writing

Our engineers write about subjects they have worked on directly. As a specialist team, the author is usually the engineer who delivered the work, bringing first-hand experience and practical insight to every article.
